New York Approves of Internet and Cellphone Betting Regulations
On April 30, 2007, the New York Racing and Wagering Board gave their nod of approval to the New York Racing Association's (NYRA) application regarding offering pari-mutuel betting on the Internet.
Now that the laws have been approved, the NYRA can debut their online betting platform powered by SONA Mobile. NYRA is the biggest operator of the 3 racing tracks in New York, the Belmont Park, Saratoga and the Aqueduct.
This approval by the New York Racing and Wagering Board will allow NYRA to launch their online betting platform, which is a first in New York. Proposals allowing online betting in New York went into effect on January 22, 2007.
The New York State Racing and Betting Board is the main organization responsible for directing this development. The Board also gives out the requirements regarding the reporting and record keeping; the operational and application guideline for the racing tracks and OTB's to follow if they want to offer mobile betting using the platforms.
SONA Mobile announced a collaboration with NYRA earlier this year and has been making an online based betting platform which will permit racing patrons to access racing track information and place their bets.
